It’s impossible to study Jennifer Jones’ paintings without feeling a personal connection to the painter herself. In her aptly titled new series, Luminous Grace, she shares with us her deep reverence for nature and her delight in the serendipitous synchronicities of the world around her.
Jones is an avid traveler, and her frequent journeys provide her with opportunities to open her heart and mind to the infinite manifestations of truth and beauty in the physical world.
This new collection seems a little edgier than her past work, but subtly so, her loving evocations of natural phenomena are softly tempered by an awareness of the darker side of life. She integrates these opposites with a breathtaking deftness and a newfound boldness.
“These paintings are a little different energetically,” she agrees. “I’ve started them with larger gestures, bigger brush strokes, and I’m playing more with the colors. With this series I felt open and fearless.”
From the gauzy light of a Provencal autumn to the wintry skies over Georgia and the bursting colors of Maui’s springtime, these magical moments in time become visual haikus in Jones’ expert hands. She distills nature in all its complexity down to its simple, joyful essence. Jones urges us to be present in the moment, to let the natural environment serve as our teacher.
