SOUNDING thrush

Winter 2019

Sounds in nature have become a significant influence in my paintings since moving to Lowcountry. Closing eyes to paint the motion of the kneading, curling undertow and pull of summer waves, the autumn wind pushing, and popping the sweeping palmettos. A winter breeze lapping and cresting warm diamonds on the river. Songbirds singing out of pure emotion. This series celebrates these moments in life.

I am interested in repeated shapes, sounds, patterns, brushstrokes, and vivid color palettes around me. My focus in these oil and acrylic paintings is finding the dualities and slipstream of balance — strength/fragility, masculine/feminine, life/death and the chasms/voids in-between found therein.
